Academy of Holy Angels Celebrated Class of 2021 with Brigid Miller as Commencement Speaker

The Academy of the Holy Angels Class of 2021 is going on to attend some of the nation's top colleges and universities.

The Academy of the Holy Angels, located in Demarest, NJ, celebrated its class of 2021 with the commencement ceremony on June 4. The school’s graduates are going on to attend top universities and colleges across the country, including Barnard, Cornell, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Villanova, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame. Plus, the class of 2021 earned more than $11.5 million in scholarships to these schools.

The graduation ceremony featured Brigid Miller of Pearl River, who was named Commencement Speaker, the highest honor the school can give on a student, for maintaining the highest grade average among her peers. Brigid has the distinction of graduating first in Merit at the academy. She is also a National Merit Scholarship Finalist who earned her spot based on the Preliminary SAT, as well as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Plus, Brigid is an Advanced Placement Scholar of Distinction.

In addition, she belongs to the National Honor Society, as well as the National Art Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta, also known as the math honor society.

This remarkable student has served as an Angel Ambassador, an Academy of Holy Angels Diversity Council member, a debate judge, a student council representative, managing editor of the Academy of Holy Angels Voice, and is a contributor to the Academy of Holy Angels blog. Last fall she went on to become a Eucharistic Minister.

Brigid is someone who works to better her community. In 2020, she organized an outreach to purchase and deliver lunches to staff at assisted living facilities, both in New City and in Nyack, in her home community of Rockland County, NY. These efforts were designed to not only help these area health care workers, but also to support Rockland restauranteurs dealing with the economic impact of COVID-19.

She has also participated in the Perry Outreach program, an opportunity for women to gain hands-on experience in engineering and medical careers.

While still in high school Brigid took courses at both Manhattan College and Notre Dame University. It is Notre Dame that she has selected to begin her next chapter—she is slated to soon start her undergraduate studies there in the fall.
