Waldorf School Welcomes Charles Andrade for Painting Workshop

Master Lazurist Charles Andrade will be hosting his second workshop at Green Meadow Waldorf School in Chestnut Ridge. In this six-day workshop, participants will learn how to paint in the Lazure technique and help put the finishing touches on Rose Hall in the school's new Arts Building.

Fans of the elegant Lazure painting method will get a chance to help put the finishing touches on Rose Hall in the new Arts Building at Green Meadow Waldorf School

The Lazure technique is applied by layering thin coats of paint in a rhythmical movement using large brushes. The final color is achieved by using a variety of colors applied in several layers over a white surface.

Green Meadow is hosting a six-day workshop with Master Lazurist Charles Andrade from Saturday, Aug. 11 to Thursday, Aug. 16.

This is Andrade's second workshop at Green Meadow.

"We are so fortunate to have Charles back to teach Lazure to the community," says Vicki Larson, director of communications and marketing for Green Meadow Waldorf School. "His first workshop in February was a huge success, and we're excited he's come back to help us complete Rose Hall."

Andrade will begin the workshop with a lecture called "Color Theory for the Home," where he will discuss color and its effect on space and mood. Andrade will then demonstrate the Lazure painting technique. Daily, participants will receive one-on-one painting instruction from Andrade. Over the course of the workshop, the method will be put into practice as attendees paint Rose Hall, a new performance theater in Green Meadow's recently renovated Arts Building. The goal of the class is to have everyone leaving with the skills to use Lazure painting techniques in their own homes.

"This is such a fun art form to learn because it is taught as a team effort, and thus it is a social art form that brings colors together in a way that is warm and inviting," says Larson. "We can't wait to see Rose Hall after the workshop."

Green Meadow uses Lazure painting to transform each of its classrooms into a home-like and beautiful environment.

The workshop will be held in the Arts Building, located at 307 Hungry Hollow Road, Chestnut Ridge. This workshop is open to the public and costs $300 for the week.
