Get the Best Winter Activities
“[The Greer Center for Learning] looks at students in terms of what they need to get to the next step of learning,” says Laura Lyons, Ph.D., education director of The Greer Center for Learning. “If we have a student in second grade, but not yet reading, we’re going to teach them the basics of reading so they can do that independently instead of struggling through.”
The center can accommodate students at any learning level, including children with special needs. Lyons, currently the only teacher at the Orangeburg location, has her doctorate in applied behavior analysis, specializing in working with children who have special needs. She says that as the student base grows, the center will take on more teachers certified in special education and working towards a degree in applied behavioral analysis.
The center’s services are available Monday-Friday from 2-5pm. Weekend hours will be available in the future. Registration is now available, and remains open year-round.
