Hofstra University Summer Camps to Offer Elite Tennis and Intensive Tennis Training Programs

These camps offer tennis training for different ages at different skill levels.

Hofstra University Summer Camps will be offering an Elite Tennis Camp this summer, where children grades six through ten who are interested in a full day of tennis can participate in two-week sessions from July 1-Aug. 9. A separate intensive training program will be offered for kids grades seven through 12, Aug. 12-16, who want to prepare for the upcoming season with Division I coach Jason Pasion.

“[The intensive training program] is designed for players competing in the USTA regional, sectional, or national tournaments and who want to play tennis in school,” says Camp Director Terry Ryan. “This is a great way to kind of get yourself ready to go so when the season comes along you hit the ground running.”

Ryan says Hofstra decided to add an intensive tennis camp because students were looking for something challenging–a summer experience that would prepare them for success during the year.

“Basically, what happens is, there are so many kids that play match play, and they play in tournaments all the time, all through the summer, but they want to get something that tunes them up either for school or the USTA circuit,” Ryan says. “So we figured, let’s take it to the next level and find those kids. We’ve been answering people’s requests to make it a little more intensive, and when you work with a Division I coach, you’re going to get a feel of what it’s like to play at the next level.”

Beyond tennis camps, Hofstra offers over 75 camps that specialize in everything from sports to academics to theater and arts. Hofstra is the largest university summer camp system in the Northeast. Sports Academy camps like the elite tennis camp are for serious players, but Hofstra offers plenty of options for students who just want to see if a certain sport, subject or activity is right for them.
