i9 Sports to Introduce Lacrosse this Spring

Beginning April 2016, i9 Sports will be offering lacrosse programs for kids ages 6-14. “Lacrosse is a sport which is growing in popularity,” according to Aliastair Henry, the Rockland area director of i9 Sports. Heeding the requests of parents and kids, who were the inspiration behind adding the new lacrosse program to its existing sport programs like flag-football, basketball, soccer, and T-ball.

i9 Sport is a national franchise, with its area office in Nanuet. Its philosophy focuses on fun, safety, inclusivity, and learning. All levels are welcome; no tryouts are necessary, and every kid plays at every game. It’s a non-competitive atmosphere where kids can learn the fundamentals of sport and the “values of good sportsmanship, in a structured environment,” Henry says.   

Each session runs about an hour, with 45 minutes focused on skills and drills, and the last 15-20 minutes devoted to scrimmage-play. Sessions run in 6-week seasons. Participants must bring their own lacrosse stick and personal equipment, and i9 provides the gaming equipment and trained instructors.  Kids ages 6-13 are welcome to join, and groups will be divided into girls and boys ages 6-8, 9-11, and 12-13.
