Mamaroneck’s Renovated Spray Park Opened on June 8

Harbor Island Park has been called the “Jewel of Mamaroneck” and offers plenty of entertainment for kids.

The Village of Mamaroneck installed its original spray park in Harbor Island Park in 2002, and has renovated it just in time for kids to have fun this summer. The renovation project improved surface safety, added a 12-foot wavy palm tree, and added a seahorse structure. Kids can also have a blast with wall sprays, cylinder sprayers, and fountain, geyser, and jet stream sprayers. The spray park is directly on the beach, so kids can make sand castles and play in the spray while parents relax. The village held a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 8 at Stephen E. Johnston Beach.

“The spray ground at Harbor Island Beach has been a hit with Mamaroneck children for the past 16 years,” said Mamaroneck mayor Thomas Murphy. “I am happy to see it newly renovated and given a facelift to keep another generation of children cool and entertained during many summers to come.”

Harbor Island Park has been called the “Jewel of Mamaroneck” in part because its 44.5-acres overlook the Sound. Village residents love to play soccer, baseball, and tennis and go boating and fishing. Harbor Island Park is also home to the Marine Education Center, gardens, and playgrounds as well as the spray park. Several community events are held here throughout the year.

“The Harbor Island Spray Park has been enormously successful. The Recreation Board decided to spend the funds to update it so residents can be safe and continue to have fun. Further enhancements are currently being evaluated,” said Randi Robinowitz, Chairperson of the Recreation & Parks Commission.
