Congers Studio Hosts Its First Dance Camp

Congers Studio Hosts Its First Dance Camp

Surge Studio, a studio that offers dance classes and birthday parties in Congers, will host its first summer dance camp this year.

Surge Studio will host its first summer dance camp for kids ages 3-18. This studio opened in October 2014 and offers semester-long dance classes, as well as graffiti art classes and yoga for adults.

There will be seven one-week sessions, in which dancers will learn ballet, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, and acro, a type of dance that uses acrobatic techniques with classical dance. The camp is divided into four age groups: Tiny Volts for ages 3-6, Shocks for ages 7-11, Surge for ages 12-18, and competition and pre-competition camps for ages 6-18. Within these groups are beginner and intermediate/advanced levels. At the end of each week, the studio will host a mini recital for parents and families to see what their children have learned.

Owner Carly Harper caters to a variety of age groups and skill levels because she believes anyone can learn how to dance. Harper began dancing at age 15 and opened Surge Studio years later when she discovered that dance was her passion. “Opening up a dance studio was something that [made] me want to be able to offer people what I feel when I dance: the excitement and adrenaline rush,” Harper says.

Kids ages 3-13 can also have birthday parties at the studio. The 90-minute party includes games, pizza, cake, pictures, and dance choreography. Surge Studio will decorate the space with a specified theme and can provide goodie bags for all guests.

Registration is now open for summer. Camp sessions run from June 29-Aug. 27, Monday-Thursday. Each class meets for three hours between 9am-3pm.
