Wallauer Paint and Design Stores Honor Family Values & Support the Community

This fourth-generation, family-owned business has found success by offering quality products and expertise for more than 100 years

The Wallauer story began in 1921, when Clarence Rudolph Wallauer opened his own paint store after years of being a salesman in White Plains, New York, for other paint manufacturers. The company was called C.R. Wallauer & Co. Inc. and became the local Benjamin Moore paint dealer. Clarence was well respected by his customers and friends who nicknamed him ‘Wally’. Thanks to his reputation and strong credit history, Wally was able to continue to bring in products and stay in business during the Great Depression. In 1935, he opened a second successful store in Port Chester. The business continued to grow, and the company added outside salesmen and two delivery trucks.

The company philosophy has always been: “Good old-fashioned family values, a team approach, and integrity.” It is these principles that have enabled the organization to reach a milestone of 100 years in business, achieved by only the very best of American companies.

3 Things That Makes Wallauer Paint and Design Stores Unique

1. Customers can create their own color palette.

Wallauer offers a wide variety of interior and exterior paints and stains, including low-odor paints, washable finishes, and more from Benjamin Moore and is the largest Benjamin Moore paint, hardware, and decorating retailer in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam counties. Wallauer also offers its own brand of paints and has more than 5,000 color selections available ensuring there is a perfect color for every project. Customers can take advantage of the store’s color-matching services and even create their own custom color palate—a Wallauer specialty.

2.  It donates to important community organizations.

Wallauer Paint and Design Centers will once again match funds to raise money for The Pink Fund, a nonprofit breast cancer organization that provides 90-day non-medical cost-of-living expenses to breast cancer patients who are in active treatment. This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Wallauer has supported the organization. The total funds raised to date exceeds $15,000. “When you buy something in any of our 15 locations, the credit card machine prompts purchasers to ‘Donate to Breast Cancer Awareness’ in any amount—one dollar, five dollars, ten dollars, or more,” says Ed Klein, COO of Wallauer. “The donations are collected through point of sale, and then Wallauer matches that amount through the month of October. We are proud to support this important organization that has done so much for so many area families.”

3. Wallauer provides excellent service and appreciates its customers.

The secret to Wallauer’s success isn’t a secret at all according to Klein. “It really comes down to having a knowledgeable group of people who know their craft and provide excellent customer service,” he says. “Then it is word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied customers that Wallauer is the go-to place for home improvement locally.” With 15 locations across Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam counties, the fourth-generation family-owned business is thriving as people look to improve their home environment and upgrade their interior spaces.

To thank long-time customers as well as new customers, a $100 gift certificate will be awarded to one shopper in every store every month through December.
