At YMCA summer camps, children learn leadership skills and develop self-confidence in a safe, accepting, and stimulating environment. They also build robots, go on field trips, shoot hoops, learn to swim, make new friends, and laugh all summer long!
Our creative, educational camp programming — structured around the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility — helps campers reach their fullest potential, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The Y prepares youth for success in life through programs that build self-esteem and teach important life skills. The YMCA believes that building competence and confidence in youth is accomplished by enhancing literacy, emphasizing service learning, and teaching healthy behavior and positive values. The Y ensures that children’s learning and development extends beyond the school year, enriching and complementing their education.
YMCA of Greater New York Day Camps are licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Accredited by the American Camping Association. This means that they have passed a very strict set of standards that are geared toward assuring a healthy physical environment, positive staff to camper interactions and strong programming.
New York City’s YMCA offers a wide range of engaging summer day and sleepaway camp options that accommodate all families. You’ll find programs convenient to home and work, and programs that meet your child’s interests and abilities. Children can enroll in just a few weeks at camp, or spend the entire summer with us.
All Y camps feature:
- Well-trained staff who serve as positive role models
- Activities and games that develop self-esteem and leadership skills
- Activities that promote cultural diversity
- Lessons in conservation and protecting our environment
- Exposure to new age-appropriate, challenging, and fun experiences
- An atmosphere that fosters fairness, teamwork, and cooperation
- Visits to the city’s top attractions, including zoos, aquariums, parks, and museums
- Health, exercise, and nutrition education
We offer variety of camp offerings that range from day camp to sleepaway camp, from early childhood up to teen, from sports to visual arts, and from science to adventure.
The New York City’s YMCA awards scholarships to campers based on the family’s annual income. Pick up a scholarship application at the YMCA branch or download an application online at ymcanyc.org.
Last year, the Y proudly served more than 13,000 campers in New York City, where we’ve been helping parents and their children have the best summer ever since 1885.
