Best Things to Do with Kids in Rockland County NY - November 2011

Bounce! Trampoline SportsJump On It!

Just in time for winter and bad weather, check out Rockland's newest indoor place for fun. Bounce! Trampoline Sports hosts Jump for Joy: The Joy of Giving, a grand opening celebration, with proceeds benefitting Child Care Resources Of Rockland Inc., Clarkstown Family Resource Center, People To People Inc., and United Way of Rockland County. This trampoline facility features jumping areas for big kids as well as Bounce! Jr., where kids ages 2 to 7 can bounce on their own trampolines or into a separate foam pit. November 5, 10am-4pm. All ages. $10 per half hour.

Nai-Ni Chen Dance CompanyDrama, Dance, and Dragons

Milk 'n Cookies, a production of ArtsRock, which aims to bring the fine arts to children in Rockland County, returns for its fall/winter season. First up is Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company's performance of Dragon's Tale, which brings to life the history, geography, and legends of ancient China with vibrant dance, music, silk ribbons, and more. Milk and cookies will actually be served after the show. November 5, 11am. All ages. $15 in advance; $20 day of show.

Marsha the MooseMoose-ing Around

Toddlers can have some Election Day fun when Marsha the Moose stops by the JCC Rockland for a magical, musical performance. Kids and their parents or grandparents can sing-a-long to Marsha on her guitar and enjoy silly magic and a puppet show with furry animal hand-puppets. November 8 at 12:30pm. $10 per child in advance; $12 at the door.

Wizard of Oz musicalWe're Not in Kansas Anymore

Take your children and grandchildren down the Yellow Brick Road in a theatrical presentation of what just might be the most famous family musical of all time: The Wizard of Oz. Children will be introduced to Dorothy, Toto, and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow in this lavish production, featuring special effects, dazzling choreography, and classic songs. November 5 at 3pm. $36-$45 (based on seating).

Thanksgiving dinnerTurkey Time

Aspiring chefs and artists can find ways this month to make their Thanksgiving table the most appealing and appetizing one ever. Check out the following workshops and classes for inspiration this holiday season:



Jill's Ceramics invites artists of all ages to a Holiday Workshop at 3pm on November 4, 11, 18, or 25, where they can paint a serving dish, candy box, napkin holder, or other holiday-themed item.

And during this month's Toddler Mornings, tots ages 2 to 5 can get help using their handprints to design Thanksgiving turkeys on a trivet, mug, dish, or something else. And whether you're a seasoned chef or a novice, the ladies at The Food Evolution can provide inspiration for your holiday meal. At a hands-on cooking class, Beyond The Turkey, learn how to make squashes, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and more into some yummy side dishes to trim your table. The Cat in the HatHow About That?

Young readers are invited to meet the mischievous Cat in the Hat at two very special story times. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for pictures with the famous feline, who will greet children in his renowned red-and-white-striped hat and red bow tie. Happy Feet Two movie posterMore Happy Feet

Those endearing penguins from Happy Feet return audiences to the magnificent landscape of Antarctica in amazing 3D. This time, Mumble, The Master of Tap, worries that his son, Erik, is reluctant to dance. Erik meets The Mighty Sven, a penguin who can fly, and decides he can't compete with this new role model. Meanwhile the world as they know it is shaken by powerful forces. Mumble brings together the penguin nations and other creatures, from tiny krill to giant elephant seals, to put things right. Happy Feet Two is directed by George Miller, who won an Oscar as the creator of the original Happy Feet. The film features the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Hank Azaria, Alecia Moore (Pink), Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Sofia Vergara, Common, Hugo Weaving, Magda Szubanski, Anthony LaPaglia, Richard Carter, and Benjamin "Lil P-Nut" Flores, Jr.
