Get Out on the Ice

Looking for something to do outdoors with your kids on the Martin Luther King Jr. school holiday (January 16)? Why not drop by Bear Mountain for some ice skating? The ice rink is open all day. Afterward, warm up in the carousel pavilion or visit the animals at the Bear Mountain Zoo. Skating sessions at 10-11:30am, 12-1:30pm, 2-3:30pm, 4-5:30pm, and 6-7:30pm. (If you've got other plans that day, don't worry-the skating is good through March 4! Just check online for hours before you visit.) $4 skate rentals; $8 parking per car.

The kids are off from school, and you need a place where they can release their pent-up energy other than the mall or your living room. Bounce! Trampoline Sports offers some help by way of extended hours on the Martin Luther King, Jr. school holiday (January 16). Doors open at 10am instead of the usual 2pm, with a dedicated play area for children ages 7 and younger. Closing time remains 8pm. $12 per hour (or $20 for two hours) for children ages 8 and older; $8 for children ages 7 and younger (unlimited play).

Nostalgia On Stage

We read it as kids and now we read it to our kids: P.D. Eastman's classic tale, Are You My Mother? The Saddle River Valley Cultural Center presents a colorful musical adventure based on the story of Baby Bird, who emerges from her shell and expects to be greeted by her mother's song. When she realizes Momma Bird isn't there, Baby Bird sets out to find her. January 21 at 3pm. $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
