Academy for Martial Arts Offers New Kickboxing Program

Academy for Martial Arts Offers New Kickboxing Program

The Academy for Martial Arts in Rockland now offers kickboxing programs for kids and adults.

One of The Academy for Martial Arts’ newest programs is Kickboxing Plus, an adult kickboxing class. Students learn kickboxing instruction through the use of heavy bags. The class is designed for people who want to get in better shape but are intimidated by gyms. The class also teaches various fitness exercises such as push-ups, walking lunges, squats, and jumping rope.

Kinderkick, the kids karate program, is a 30 minute class for kids ages 2 1/2-4 1/2. Kids work on balance and coordination along with their kicks, focus, and discipline. Other kids programs include the Basic Program for kids 4 1/2 and older to work on the basics of martial arts along with some beginner karate forms. After mastering the basics, kids can move on to the first level of BBC (Black Belt Course), where they will learn more martial art forms, some weaponry, and self-defense. In the advanced program, they start working on the curriculum to earn their black belt.

The Academy also offers Brazilian Jiu-jitsu programs that help women, men, and children work on their hand eye and foot coordination along with the thought processes behind a technique.

“What sets us apart from other schools is that we are a family and no one here is a number,” said Jackeline Harnett, owner and Sensei at Academy for Martial Arts. “Everyone is an individual and every person needs different things from the program so we help them differently.”

The academy also offers birthday parties, summer camps, and after-school programs throughout the school year.
