The Academy For Martial Arts Opens Suffern Location

The Academy For Martial Arts Opens Suffern Location

The Academy For Martial Arts recently opened its second location.

The Academy For Martial Arts acquired a location in Suffern in mid-December. The academy’s second location offers a variety of martial arts programs for children and adults.

The Academy For Martial Arts’ second location was previously operated under the name DAS Morisi’s Martial Arts for more than 20 years. According to Sensei Jackeline Harnett, owner and senior instructor of The Academy For Martial Arts, it was an honor having the school's previous owner and friend choose her to take over.

“It is a true honor to have Shihan Mark Morisi trust me enough to ask me to continue to serve the students in his place alongside a spectacular group of instructors and assistants and to ask me to be a part of his amazing martial arts family,” Harnett says.

The Academy For Martial Arts in Suffern offers a variety of programs for children ages 3 and older. Programs include karate, Muay Thai, and Spartan, as well as a variety of adult programs including karate and kickboxing.

According to Harnett, children can reap mental and physical health benefits when they participate in martial arts.

“Aside from learning your martial arts skills, like self-defense, fitness is a big part of martial arts classes,” Harnett says. “These classes usually incorporate warmups with jumping jacks, pushups, and stretches. Martial arts movements help with muscle tone and flexibility, and of course, a big part of it is the other aspects of life, such as focus, discipline, responsibility, following direction, instruction, and developing self-discipline and self-control.”

Harnett started practicing martial arts by training in kickboxing in 1999 and went on to train in karate and Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2001. The Academy For Martial Arts works to provide innovative, relevant, and accessible martial arts and fitness programs to its students.

The Academy For Martial Arts also has a location in Orangetown. The school offers children's birthday party packages at both locations. Parties are structured around martial arts and include access to the facility, games, pizza, and tableware such as plates, cups, and napkins.
