Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern Acknowledged for Quality Breast Care

Good Samaritan Hospital’s Center for Breast Health in Suffern has received national accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) for excellence in breast care. The full accreditation designation was granted in April and will last three years.

Accreditation by the NAPBC is an elite honor and is only administered to breast health centers that are voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality breast care. There is also a rigirous evaluation process and performance review necessary for qualification.

Centers must demonstrate compliance with the standards established by the NAPBC for treating women with any diagnosed breast disease. Standards include proficiency in center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. Exceptional breast centers that achieve the NAPBC accreditation demonstrate a firm commitment to offer all patients with every possible advantage in their battle against breast disease.

"We have developed a program that is completely patient-focused from the time that they come in for screening mammography through the process of diagnosis and treatment," Karen Karsif, M.D., medical director of the Center for Breast Health, told Nanuet Patch. "At each step, the physical and emotional needs of the patients are assessed by a multidisciplinary team."

The cohesive team of physicians, nurses, social workers, and navigators provides high quality care in all areas. The center also offers support groups and support resources.
